Canfield Custom Pumps recommended specifications for the Turbi-Float Floating Pump System.

  • Pump, motor, floatation devices shall be assembled by one supplier. System shall be Turbi-Float floating pump system as manufactured by Canfield Custom Pumps. Canfield Custom Pumps can be contacted at (970) 867-2943, fax (970) 867-0313, 111 West Street, P.O. Box 519, Fort Morgan, Colorado 80701.
  • Floatation system shall be a modular pontoon float assembly which utilizes commercial grade marine dock float drums. Drums shall be filled with expanded polystyrene and fully sheathed with UV inhibited polyethylene. The drums shall be securely bolted to a fabricated structural steel framework. Float system shall consist of a matched pair of pontoon and framework assemblies. Float system shall be sized so that buoyancy exceeds total pump assembly weight by 500lbs. minimum.
  • The fabricated steel pontoon framework shall allow the pump to pivot from a horizontal position parallel to the surface of the water to a vertical running position. Pivot assembly shall have provision to lock the pump in running position with a hardened steel pins. Pump assembly shall be suitably counterweighted to help prevent immersion of electric motor.
  • The pump intake shall be protected with a properly sized suction screen to protect the pump from fish and debris while maintaining adequate flow to the pump under normal operating conditions.
  • The pump bowls shall be of ASTM-A48 Class 30 cast iron free of blow holes, sand holes and other detrimental defects. They shall be accurately machined with register fit circles.

Impellers shall be C86500 or C903 bronze. They shall be of the enclosed type. They shall be securely fastened to the shaft with tapered collets. The impeller shall be adjustable vertically by external means at the driver location.

All pumps shall have porcelain or powder epoxy lined water passageways.

The pump shaft shall be of type 400 series stainless steel turned and ground. It shall be supported by bronze bearings above and below each impeller. The suction bell bearing shall be extra long and permanently grease packed and sealed with a bronze collar. The discharge case shall also contain an extra long support bearing.

  • Discharge body shall be of high grade fabricated steel. The fluid discharge shall be above the surface level. The discharge body shall elevate the motor a reasonable distance above the water level.
  • The pump shall be equipped with a suitable lifting eye capable of supporting the assembled weight of the pump and pontoon framework. The lifting eye shall be permanently installed and situated so the pump is balanced when lifted.
  • Electric motors shall be of the vertical solid shaft design. They shall be standard NEMA frame motors. The motors shall carry the total vertical loading of the pumps rotating mass. Horsepower, service factor, enclosure and other data must also provided for the specific application. All motors should meet, as minimum requirements, the published standard rules and regulations of NEMA, ANSI and IEEE with respect to manufacture and test.

Variations and exceptions from the above specifications will be considered provided the bidder calls particular attention to such exceptions and explain in detail the reasons and advantage for the exceptions.
