Canfield Custom Pumps recommended specifications for the Turbi-Float System®

  • Motor, pump, and floatation system shall be assembled and provided by one supplier.  System shall be the Turbi-Float Floating Pump System® as manufactured by Canfield Custom Pumps.  Canfield Custom Pumps can be contacted at (970) 867-2943, fax (970) 867-0313, 111 West Street, P.O.   • Floatation system shall be individual modular pontoons constructed of commercial grade marine dock float drums.  Drums shall be filled with expanded polystyrene and fully sheathed with UV inhibited polyethylene.  The drums shall be securely bolted to a fabricated structural steel framework.  Float system shall consist of matched pairs of pontoon and framework assemblies.  Float system shall be sized so that fully weighted water line is no more than 70% of pontoon height.
  • The fabricated steel pontoon framework shall allow the pump to pivot from a horizontal position parallel to the water surface to the vertical running position.  Pivot assembly shall provide for locking the pump in the vertical running position with hardened steel pins.  Pump shall be suitably balanced with counterweights as required for pump to hang in the running position.  A frame mounted winch assembly shall be provided for lifting the intake end of pump assembly up out of the water for launch, inspection while immersed, and recovery.  A crossover bracing frame spanning between the pontoon halves shall be included and fitted with a lifting point capable of supporting the entire unit’s assembled weight.
  • The pump intake shall be protected with a suitably sized intake suction screen to protect the pump from fish and debris while maintaining adequate flow to the pump under normal operating conditions.
  • The pump bowls shall be of ASTM-A48 Class 30 cast iron free of blow holes, sand holes, and other detrimental defects.  They shall be accurately machined with register fit circles.  Bowls shall have porcelain or powder coated epoxy line water passageways.  Impellers shall be C86500 or C903 when of bronze construction.  Alternative impeller materials shall be submitted and approved by the manufacturer as suitable for non-standard operating conditions.  Impellers shall be securely fastened to the shaft with tapered collets.  Bowl shafts shall be 416 stainless steel, turned and ground, supported by bronze sleeve bearings (or approved alternate material) above and below each impeller.  Suction bell/case bearing shall be extra-long and permanently grease packed and protected by a collar.  The discharge case shall also contain an extra-long support bearing.  Bowls shall be of the enclosed lineshaft type negating the need for packed box or mechanical seals.
  • Discharge body shall be of high grade fabricated steel.  The fluid discharge shall be above the water surface level.  The discharge body shall elevate the motor a proper safe distance above the water surface to avoid water entry into the motor.  A suitable lifting point capable of supporting the assembled weight of the pump, discharge body, and motor shall be permanently installed and situated so the assembly is balanced separate of the pontoon and framework.
  • Electric motors shall be of the vertical solid shaft design and incorporate thrust capacity suitable for the hung weight of the rotating assembly plus nominal down-thrust of the pump.  All motors shall meet as minimum requirements the published standard rules and regulations of NEMA, ANSI, and IEEE with respect to manufacture and test.

Variations and exceptions from the above specifications will be considered provided the bidder calls particular attention to such exceptions and explain in detail the reasons and advantages for the exceptions.
